About GoldenNumber.net (Meet the Phi Guy)

For those of you wondering who created this site and why, here’s a little background information.

The inspiration for the site came as a result of coming to faith in God through Jesus Christ.  This experience challenged many beliefs I had held and motivated me to dig deeper into the mysteries of life’s origins and purpose.  While much of this pursuit was spiritual in nature, I also began to better appreciate the incredible beauty and design of the universe in which we live.  The more I explored, the more I discovered that the number called Phi, or 1.6180339…, appears as a pervasive constant of design in many aspects of our existence.  Those presented on this site are only the beginning, and I’d like to thank all the contributors who have provided content to the site.

Could some appearances of phi be just natural?  Certainly.  Even then, we still have to ask how the physical laws of the universe that we consider “natural” are so precisely tuned to support life, do we not?  Could the pervasive appearance of phi instead be evidence of a broader plan of Design?  That’s something we must each study, experience, ponder and decide for ourselves.

Since the site was first introduced, I’ve come to realize that my connection to phi goes beyond just a fascination with the topic.  Several years after starting this study, someone I met through this site pointed out to me that my birth date falls at the “phi point” of the year in mid August.  I later checked my birth announcement and found that I was born at 5:55 PM CST.  (See 5 and Phi.)  Another site visitor wrote with the observation that the numerological values of my first and last name (adding A=1, B=2, etc.) are 51 and 83.  The cosine of 51.83 degrees is phi (0.618), and it is this angle that appears in the sacred geometry of the Great Pyramid of Egypt.  Later it hit me that the phone number I had growing up as a kid was made up only Fibonacci numbers (1, 2, 3, 5 and 8,  and with five 5′s) and I lived at had an address made up of four Fibonacci numbers (0, 1, 1 and 2).  My initials are GM, the same as the Golden Mean.  You can look for relationships in anything, but I guess you could call me the “Phi Guy.”

This site is not connected with any scientific, religious or research organization and I don’t have any special credentials for this topic, unless you want to count a lifelong love of math and science, certification as a CPA and an MBA in ‘Fi’nance.  (Maybe someday I’ll get a Doctorate of ‘Phi’losophy.)

The goal of the site is simply to share phi and the experience of seeing and appreciating the work of our Creator.  I hope you find the site takes you beyond interest to insight and inspiration, and that through it you come to better know the Master Architect and Mathematician of the Universe.  You can find other sites I’ve developed with the similar goals in mind at:

Dear Gary,
Thank you for your wonderful sites, which have become a main inspiration for me to:
1. Find new section divine relations (I have found very interesting EEG-patterns in alternative states of consciousness, also in heart variability). Together with friends we have also made two CD:s with music which is totally based on the golden number. The effect of this music has been astonishing.
One reason to contact you is to offer to send our research findings and the music to you. The second is a question. I am going to write the first book in Swedish about SD and our findings. It would be a great honor for me if you gave me permission to translate some of the material from your site and include in the book. I would naturally mention the source and do my best to create interest for your sites among the swedish population.
Once again, thank you for your excellent work and I am looking forwards to get a chance of cooperate with you
I will be happy to send the research findings and the music if you let me know your e-mail and post address.
Best Regards
Lars-Eric Uneståhl, Ph.D. President – Scandinavian International University

Hi Gary/ I am making a large cross that is lit and am a bit brain dead. At what point does the Horizontal part intersect with the Vertical. Is the width 1/2 of the length? I want to be sure it is accurate. Thanks, Sonya, hope you are well!

Just put the horizontal arm at 0.618 of the height of the cross. So a 10″ tall cross would have the horizontal arm at 6.18″
